Film star, racing car driver, motorcycle rider, father and icon of an era, Steve McQueen is possibly the best example of a man's man I can think of.
A passion for racing and a love of acting saw him live a life of danger and creativity. Two of the greatest (IMHO) combinations in life. Never without a cigarette in hand nor far from a motorbike or fast car, Steve McQueen was without one of the coolest cats in Hollywood.
His style, effortless and masculine. Leather jackets, cardigans and sharp suits which would fit perfectly in todays culture. Don't forget the short shorts above, tres cool.
It's just a shame it all ended at the age of 50 for him. I wonder if the cigarettes had something to do with it.

Steve McQueen. The epitome of cool. The desert boots, Playboys, herringbone sport jackets, turtlenecks that he wore in "Bullitt". You can wear any combination of clothing from the "Bullitt" wardrobe today and every passerby would comment on how masculine and stylish you look. I didn't know he was only 50 when he died. So many sartorial years ahead. Perhaps the cigarettes. We'll never know. It's our loss.
It actually wasn't the cigarettes, but rather asbestos exposure that led to mesothelioma. He believed his illness was a direct result of massive exposure while removing asbestos lagging from pipes aboard a troop ship during his time in the Marines.
