The Art of P.Johnson Tailors: Melbourne

It’s a rare occasion that you’re simply blown away by the level of service and detail in a business. Thankfully, this weekend I experienced a great sixty minute fitting for a suit. P. Johnson, an Australian tailor, is making quite the stir because their authentic, Saville Row inspired service is something rarely seen here.

Their by appointment shop in South Melbourne has been designed with love, care and a keen eye for detail. Rumour has it one of their employees just so happens to be an interior designer. Win. The double storey South Melbourne shop is fitted with plush couches for deciding which fabric best suits your needs, whilst mannequins line the windows as fitting inspiration.

Tom and Jen take the time to understand your needs- they explain the various fits, pockets, buttons and even ask whether you want that very fine detailed stitching on the lapels. A great service. P. Johnson is a refreshing change on an otherwise dreary, sometimes too safe men’s fashion scene in Australia.

What did I choose? A classic grey 2 button handmade suit in a medium weight fabric. Suitable for the spring days and the cooler months.

P. Johnson also stock a range of Drakes ties and Fox umbrellas. If you’re in need, they also have tailored shirts to accompany your brand new suit.

More styles than you can poke a stick at.
I recommend taking the time and having something that’s made for you and you only.
