1957 Jaguar XK-SS

1957 Jaguar XK SS
The history of the 1957 Jaguar XK-SS is both a tragedy and a love story. Jaguar D-Types were originally built for competitive racing, but when racing regulations changed and the car became obsolete, Jaguar decided to convert the old D-Types into street legal cars available to the public. Tragically, 9 of the 25 XK-SS D-Types were destroyed by a fire at the Jaguar factory in 1957. But on the plus side, the remaining 16 became even more special, and one was snapped up by Steve McQueen, who had a love affair with the car for the remainder of his life.  (WWW)
