Tod’s Artisan Shoe Making Demonstration, Singapore

Last week whilst travelling in Singapore, I happened past the Tod’s store located at Paragon Shopping Plaza in Orchard Road. Located inside the mall’s foyers was the Tod’s artisan shoemaking demonstration. A simply refreshing and authentic way to display the craft that goes into making these fine Italian shoes. The nice Italian gent didn’t speak a word of English, however his very helpful and friendly interpreter was on hand to help out with the language barrier.

The obvious question and most often asked was ‘How long does a pair of Tod’s loafers take to make?’ The answer. There is no answer, because many different people work on each pair of shoes as they pass through the workshop. However if he were to guess, it would be roughly 4 hours in total.

This was one of those moments where I was more interested in practicing my horrendous Italian, rather than asking questions which really mattered. I didn’t catch the nice gentlemans name nor his interpreters. I just said my goodbyes and went on my merry way.

Regardless, it was a great thing to witness.
