5 Best ‘First Date’ Appropriate Bars in Melbourne

I don’t believe in going for dinner as a first date, unless of course there’s history and she’s successfully passed the crazy / psycho test, then it’s ok to try the job interview style dinner date someplace nice. However, if you’re getting to know someone and want to test the waters, we recommend a casual drink at a cool and interesting bar. Someplace that’s not sleazy, rather well appointed and a talking point for the evening. Here are my personal and proven favourite bars in Melbourne to get to know someone. Good luck!

Date Bar #1 – Siglo

Siglo_Functions_02
Without a doubt my date favourite place in Melbourne. On a warm evening Siglo turns it on with it’s view and drinks menu. You wont’ find your Carlton Draught here, rather a mix of international beers and wines at no so cheap prices. Regardless the view of Parliament is killer and the vibe is relaxed and makes for a chill location to get to know someone.

Date Bar #2 – Tony Star’s Kitten Club

If a cool name and cocktails are your thing, then look no further than Tony Star’s Kitten Club. It’s one of the many jewels in the Melbourne crown, that’s hidden away on Little Collins Street. Through the green door you’ll find two levels of intimate space with enough patronage to make for a comfortable atmosphere when getting to know session. Order a couple Martini’s and get busy throwing out the vibe.

Date Bar #3 – Panama Dining Room

With a massive open plan space and windows to match, Panama Dining Room is the place to go if you want a buzzing vibe and view to break the awkward silences. Panama Dining Room even has a pool table in the middle of the room so you can through down the challenge to your date. With a great drinks list you can drink or dine if things are going really well.

Date Bar #4 – Supper Club

My personal choice for Winter. Located below Siglo, The Melbourne Supper Club is an old favourite because of its warm vibe and amazing selection of wine. The bar is full of luxurious Chesterfield sofas which can also double as ‘love seats’, should you find yourself feeling frisky. We recommend getting some party pies to avoid getting too sloshed on your date.

Date Bar #5 – The Everleigh

If god was a barman, he would work at The Everleigh making heavenly cocktails (pun intended). Located in the popular Gertrude St Collingwood, The Everleigh is the place to get your James Bond on. Like the Supper Club, it’s rich surrounds will have your date swooning at your decadent choice of venue. They say this bar has the best cocktails in Melbourne. A big call so head there and see for yourself. If the date’s going well, pop downstairs and grab a casual bite at The Diner.
