In The Office: BOSE SoundTouch 30

Christmas is over, which means you can stop thinking about gifts for other people and start thinking about gifts for yourself. We take some time with the very slick BOSE SoundTouch 30.

Top of our list right now is the Bose SoundTouch 30 speaker system, a beautiful gadget we’ve been lucky enough to have here in the D’Marge office, keeping us sane through the madness of the holiday season.

Let’s get the technical stuff out of the way first: the SoundTouch system works over your wireless network and is controlled via an app for Apple or Android. The simple blue-on-black interface aggregates music from multiple sources – network attached storage (NAS) devices, Internet radio stations, Spotify – any of which can be made one of six presets. FYI – It took roughly 3 minutes to setup which will be a relief for most.

Because it’s a modular system, you can place speakers in multiple rooms and either play the same song over all wirelessly or play different songs across specific zones. If you were wondering what the future of sound looks like, this could quite possibly be it.

Of course, that’s not the only reason the SoundTouch 30 has become a favourite around here. The sound quality, both in volume and clarity, lives up to the high standards set by Bose. The versatility is also a major plus – the SoundTouch 30 is a capable device as both a primary sound system and as part of a larger speaker network.

The speaker’s good looks don’t hurt either (this is a men’s style blog, after all). It’s simple, sleek, modern, cool. All its functionality is easy to use, which is a must when Grandma is  over and in the mood to blast her death metal.

Put it all together, and you’ve got an audio package that’s perfectly understated in design and an over-achiever everywhere else. Bose is definitely on our hit list for 2015.
