In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past month or so, you’ll be fully aware that Sydney is stage 5 freezing at the moment. In fact, last month we experienced out coldest June day for 20 years. Talk about a mood killer.

There is, however, one benefit to plummeting temperatures. Sydneysiders can sample some of the city’s finest calorie-loaded delicacies and truly embrace that extra layer of winter blubber without worrying about the bikini or boardshort season ahead.

We recommend doing it in style with these 6 Sydney hotspots where you can comfort eat to your heart’s delight.

Two words – mac, cheese. If you were already familiar with Neighbourhood‘s iconic Bondi hipster burger offering then your mind is about to be blown by the restaurant’s Mac and Cheese.

As well as ace comfort food, Neighbourhood is well-known for their wine list, beer and cocktail offering that is a little left-of-centre and sure to go down a treat with any burger or macaroni indulgence.

 #2 Grandma’s, Sydney

jaffle

Is there anything better than a good grilled cheese sandwich? We think not.

Grandma’s, a little hole in the wall in Sydney’s CBD, is perhaps known for it’s kitschy decor and extensive cocktail list, but when it comes to comfort food the bar is ticking all the right boxes.

Grandma’s supper menu features a range of jaffles (you know….toasted sandwiched with crimped edges) filled with winter treats like chicken, cheese and onion, your choice of spaghetti or baked beans, or the Royale, which features basil and tomato. Sign us up.

You’d walk straight past Surry Hills’ Wild Rover if it wasn’t for the restaurant’s famed food and booze offering.

Described as a “swashbuckling, foot stomping, riotous escape from pomp”, The Wild Rover looks a bit like an Irish folk barn met New York chic for an unassuming good time.

As well as a rotating craft beer list and two hundred-plus whiskies, The Wild Rover knows that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, with $1 oysters and house-made sausage rolls which are known and loved all over the city by comfort eaters and foodies alike.
