Mercedes-Benz have just announced a striking new wagon to their line up known as the CLA Shooting Brake. Following the distinct design aesthetics of its bigger brother, the CLS Shooting Brake, the CLA gets the same functional treatment albeit in a smaller, punchier package with various versions.
The plunging rear roofline has been revised to retain the signature shape that the Shooting Brake moniker is known for but also provides more headroom in the backseat area. It also gains significantly more cargo space than its sedan sibling – an extra 25 litres to be exact. There will be three versions of the CLA Shooting Brake available: a 2.2-litre turbo diesel with either 136 or 177 horsepower and a four cylinder 1.6 litre with 122, 156 or 211 horsepower, with the latter paired with Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive.
The last version is the top of the line model known as the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake. It features the same 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbo engine from the four door CLA45, A45 and GLA45 vehicles. On tap is 360 horsepower driving all four wheels that allows the AMG variant to hit 0-100km/h in just 4.7 seconds before maxing out at 250km/h; a rather valiant effort for a small people mover if you ask us. The vehicle will be officially welcomed at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2015.
