Apple Hints At The Future With Their Stunning New MacBook

Apple rarely does things in halves and to coincide with their smartwatch announcement this morning, the Cupertino tech company has unveiled their latest notebooks slated as the “thinnest and lightest Macs ever”.

They’re not kidding either, with the MacBook redesigned to achieve a weight of just 920 grams and dimensions that measure in at 13.1mm thick – that’s 24 percent thinner than the current 11-inch MacBook Air.

The svelte lines do come at a cost though, with the new processor being Intel’s Core M unit – a lightweight version of their more powerful workhorse processor, the Core I, as employed in previous MacBooks which users have relied on in the past to get the job done quickly.

If it’s just looks you’re worried about, Apple’s eye-watering 12-inch Retina display comes standard as does the responsive full-sized keyboard which is getting more precarious to finger bash as the frame continues to shrink. For the first time, the MacBook will also be available in three aluminium finishes: gold, silver and space grey.

New notable functions include a ‘Force Touch’ trackpad which Apple promises will bring a new dimension of interactivity to the Mac. To do away with all the unnecessary cords poking out, the latest multi-purpose compact USB-C port is employed in the device to handle data transfer, video out and charging all in a single connector. Battery life is always an area that’s looking for improvement so Apple have maximised every millimetre of space to deliver a claimed all-day battery life.

The new MacBook comes with a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.4 GHz, 8GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300 with a starting price of AUD$1,799. The 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz, 8GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300 will start from AUD$2,199.

The new MacBook will be available in local Australian outlets from Friday the 10th of April through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and select Apple authorised resellers.
