Two words: double denim. Chambrays, on selvage under indigo blazers in linen set the stage for best-dressed men this week. The ‘Welcome To Me’ premiere was all about the jean material in New York – a plethora a raw denim instead of black trousers with button shirts and suit jackets.
Denim was at the Tony Awards too, but a little more tailored care of Tommy Tune’s jean-look suit with blue leather shoes. And then there was the walking-moustache man making dandy of the jean blazer with spotted neckerchief and spectacles.
But there were some dapper suits this week. Among the best – Kobe Bryant’s Seventies grey jacket on black trouser and a deliciously mulberry hue on the back of Robert Fairchild. Standing on his own, ‘The Avengers’ Aaron Taylor-Johnson worked a different type of magic, reeling back a sophisticated wool grey three-piece with white trainers and felt-brimmed hat.
