What do Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Lexus and Mercedes have in common? They’re all part of this week’s hottest motoring news. Know what you need to, forget what you don’t – we’ve done all the hard work for you.
#1 Alfa Romeo’s BMW Fighter Breaks Cover
Alfa Romeo have long been renowned for their beautiful cars which exude the passion of bold Italian craftsmanship. Their latest sports sedan? A BMW 3-Series fighter in the form of the Giulia QV.
Simply listen to the sound of this beast and it will give away tell-tale signs of what lurks beneath. A 510hp V6 under the bonnet combined with active aerodynamics (keep an eye on the front lip spoiler at 0:24) and curves to absolutely die for. We need say no more.
#2 Aston Martin DB9 GT Adds New Trim & More Power
New trim, more power – two of our favourite phrases when it comes to beautifully fast cars. The Aston Martin DB9 GT is the latest car to follow this proven route, now climbing to 540hp from the standard DB9’s 500hp with torque remaining unchanged. Under the bonnet you’ll also find the same 6.0-litre V12 which launches the car from 0 – 100km/h in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 295km/h.
Need more convincing? The DB9 GT also sees updates in the cabin with a broader selection of colours and interior trim options. Most notable interior change is the steering wheel which now features a design inspired by the wild One-77 supercar.
#3 Jaguar Tease Their Latest Performance SUV
In need of a people mover with some extra go juice? The Jaguar F-Pace has answered your calls. The latest car to come out of the British marque’s factory is a performance SUV to take on the likes of BMW’s X6 and Mercedes’ GLE Class. No specs have been released just yet but the debut of the car at the Detroit Auto Show is just 90 days away. If the F-Type is anything to go by, we’ve got big expectations for this car.
#4 Lexus Builds A Real Life Hoverboard – Supposedly
The internet is a buzz at the moment with Lexus claiming that they’ve created the world’s first real hoverboard (as dreamt up in the Back to the Future films). There’s also video that teases this cutting edge technology which Lexus claims is a combination of “magnetic levitation with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets.”
We’re still skeptical at the moment as the video doesn’t show a person actually standing on the board. So in theory, it’s just a really expensive floating board. Great Scott, just watch the video and decide for yourself.
#5 Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 Receives Green Light For Production
Be Afraid. Picking up the kids just got more intimidating. After its recent debut at the Geneva Auto Show, Mercedes have confirmed that their G500 4×4 monster truck will be going ahead with production. The vehicle is an extreme take on the brand’s legendary Geländewagen and makes do without the extra set of wheels as seen on the G63 AMG 6×6.
The good news? It keeps the insanely wide track and raised suspension along with its 22-inch wheels. The production model should see a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 packing 422hp as seen in the C63 and AMG GT – retuned for torque of course. The price? Germany has it tagged at €226,100 which is about $330,000.
