Audi have given local petrol heads the ultimate privilege by launching the Audi Sport program in Australia ahead of the world and even the maker’s home country of Germany.
The Audi Sport brand will tackle the premium sports market currently dominated by BMW‘s M division and the Mercedes AMG label. Why is Australia so lucrative to Audi? The marque is acting on the fact that the local premium sports market saw double digit growth over the 2014 period. Even though Australia is a smaller market compared to other nations, this it appears is still a good enough reason for Audi Sport to set up camp here for future operations.
Included in the new program will be Audi’s latest R8 and RS line of performance vehicles. Those hero models combined with the existing S-line of cars make up over 15% of all Audi sales in Australia.
No doubt Australians love fast cars and it’s a given that the Audi Sport moniker will be welcomed with open arms amongst enthusiasts. Whether or not it’ll reach the cult-like status of its German cousins is another story altogether given the tight competition and Japanese players who are also pushing hard with a revamped Lexus and Nissan’s Infiniti brand.
