Sony is the latest company to get in on the drone game. The Japanese corp joined forces with Tokyo robotics firm ZMP, Inc. to create a joint company called Aerosense. The new venture will combine Sony’s image sensors (also seen in Apple and Samsung smartphones) with ZMP’s autopilot technology to offer services such as inspecting infrastructure and surveying land.
The first design, the DTO1-E, is a winged vertical take-off craft that resembles a small plane. The drone can reportedly fly for up to two hours at a maximum speed of about 170 km/hr and can carry up to 10 kilos of cargo.
Aerosense will first offer its drone services to businesses, so if you’re hoping to score one for personal use, you’ll have to keep waiting.
