Rain is said to be a sign of good luck. So it was the luckiest of days for punters at the 2015 Melbourne Cup Carnival. Off the race track, we’ve rejoined our friends Peroni for a recap of the Derby Day fashions, isolating the best dressed men via #PeroniStyle.
Derby Day dress is normally black-and-white tailoring. But recent years have seen greys creep onto the fashion field and with the cloudy atmosphere at Flemington Racecourse, pastels and gunmetals felt strikingly appropriate.
Single-breast suits in windowpane check shared canapés and beers with Beetlejuice chalk stripes – those sharp-collared button down shirts and woven silk ties proving the dark horse on the day in bold polka dots and wallpaper florals.
Navy double-breasted jackets paraded from tent to tent too; the traditional dress code proving too inhibiting for some. The Aussie man’s creative and colourful approach to formal dressing has always been inspiring. And this Derby Day didn’t disappoint.
