It is a truth universally acknowledged that hotel sex is superior to regular sex. You’ve known it since the very first time you dipped into the overpriced minibar and slipped between the sheets with a ladyfriend.
Believe it or not, there’s an actual scientific explanation for the hotel sex phenomenon. Author, psychotherapist and sex counselor Ian Kerner tells the Huffington Post that certain chemical reactions occur in your brain when you have sex in a hotel that don’t necessarily happen at home.
“The novelty of the hotel room is going to stimulate dopamine transmission in the brain, which pays a big role in arousal and sexual excitement,” Kerner says.
Hotels also set the scene for sensuality. They’re designed to be indulgent and luxurious, to stimulate all your senses, to take you out of the regular world into one that’s free from distractions and stress. All those things leave you primed and ready for arousal.
Of course, there’s also the obvious perk of not having to launder the linens afterwards. This is the most compelling argument for a staycation we’ve heard yet.
