1956 Jaguar D-Type Could Fetch More Than US$5M At Auction

Full screen

Ask any auto enthusiast to list history’s most beautiful cars, and this one is bound to make the cut. The Jaguar D-Type is one of the marque’s most successful racing cars and one of its most stunning creations.

Chassis number XKD 604, pictured here, was one of only six long-nose Jaguar D-Types made for the factory team in 1956. Few examples followed. Just 53 were made for private customers, along with another 18 campaigned by the factory racing team.

This particular car first raced in 1956 at the Daily Express Silverstone event, but had a limited career on the track. It was then owned by another race team and was later passed through the hands of several collectors. It remains in incredible, concours-level condition.

So yes, the car is beautiful. And yes, it’s rare. And yes, it could be yours.

Chassis number XKD 604 will be up for auction in Arizona in January 2016 via RM Sotheby’s. It is expected to fetch more than US$5 million, and could set a record for the model if it tops US$6.2 million.
