What’s not to love about 74 island wonders dotted off the tropical coast of Queensland? The stunning natural landscapes at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef cannot be beat. Beautiful beaches, secluded bays and calm waters await in the Whitsundays.

If you’re the adventurous type, a holiday here means snorkeling, diving, swimming, sailing, beach camping and bushwalking. If you’re more inclined to sunbathe by a pool between trips to the spa, the islands deliver equally well.

The accommodations are similarly varied to cater to a variety of tastes. Here are our picks for the coolest Whitsundays Airbnbs.

#1 Beachfront 1 Bedroom

This beachfront pad on Hamilton Island is ideally located in every way. Not only does it call the popular Whitsunday Apartment complex on the resort side of the island home, it’s also a top floor, end apartment. Maximum privacy plus gorgeous views of Catseye Beach, the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Island – it’s the perfect recipe for an island escape.

#2 Hibiscus 107

Hibiscus 107 is a modern and fully self-contained apartment that has everything required for a relaxing beach holiday. The spacious master bedroom is the star of the space. It’s equipped with a wall mounted LCD TV, walk-in dressing room and mirrored wardrobes, and opens directly on to a balcony with private sun lounges. There’s barely a reason to leave it, but if you do, you’ll be treated to a contemporary kitchen and a light, bright living area.

#3 Casuarina Cove 1

Casuarina Cove 1 is a free standing 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa situated near Hamilton Island’s hub. Wood floors, inviting furniture in neutral tones and a kitchen full of stainless steel appliances welcome you to your temporary home, along with a beautiful balcony that makes the most of the surrounding foliage. If you need a party pad with space for guests, this could be the place.

#4 Pinnacle 2 Bedroom

Clean and contemporary décor makes this Pinnacle apartment a stand out. The views from the balcony are reason enough to book a stay, but if you need more convincing, there’s also a public pool and a golf buggy for easy exploration of the island. As an added bonus, guests are picked up at the airport and transferred to the complex, then returned to the airport upon departure.

#5 Panorama 16

You’ll want to spend every sunset on the balcony of this two bedroom, two bathroom townhouse, appropriately named “Panorama.” Aside from the magnificent scenery, your stay includes a four-seater golf buggy, return airport transfers, free internet and sparkling wine on arrival. Be sure to take advantage of the restaurants and shops located nearby.

#6 The Round House

For a holiday splurge, book your stay at The Round House. The four bedroom, five bathroom home is nestled high into a Hamilton Island hillside overlooking the Whitsunday Islands and Catseye Bay. Boasting a unique circular design, The Round House spoils guests with a media room, a spectacular infinity pool and a valet greeting at their arrival point on the island.

#7 Shorelines 36

Shorelines 36 is two bedroom, two bathroom townhouse located on the Marina side of Hamilton island. Like many of the Whitsundays’ best Airbnb rentals, Shorelines comes with a golf buggy, a pool, exquisite water views and access to a caretaker to make sure your stay is sublime. The master bedroom also has a private balcony plus a large ensuite with spa bath.

#8 Yacht Harbour Tower

Splash out on a stay in the iconic Yacht Harbour Tower that dominates Hamilton Island. The apartment overlooks both the Marina and Catseye Beach, and is one of only 14 residences in the tower. The vistas are hard to beat, as are the long balcony, luxurious bathtub, well-appointed kitchen and spacious living area. The hardest part about holidaying here will be convincing yourself to go home.
