The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro snapped up top honours as Motor Trend announced this year’s winners of the Golden Calipers for Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, SUV of the Year and Person of the Year.
Despite tough competition from the Audi TT, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes AMG GT S, Honda Civic, Toyota Mirai and BMW 7 Series, Motor Trend’s nine judges deemed the Chevy coupe the best of the batch. The magazine heaped on the praise for the sixth generation’s sharp looks, outstanding engines, lighter platform and superior handling.
“Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price,” said editor-in-chief Edward Loh in a press release, “though its price is well within reach of the average consumer.”
Truck of the Year also went to a Chevrolet, the 2016 Colorado, while the Volvo XC90 took the crown for SUV of the Year. Motor Trend named Thomas Doll, Subaru of America President and Chief Operating Officer, its Person of the Year.
