When it comes to creating compelling watches for real watch enthusiasts, it’s pretty hard to go past Tudor. At Baselworld 2015 this year, Tudor pulled the covers off a new Pelagos; the much-lauded diver’s watch that comes with some serious upgrades for this year.

“At first glance, many would assume that the Tudor Pelagos has just been given a new colour scheme, but a closer look reveals a new trick up its sleeve.”

2015’s Tudor Pelagos features a familiar titanium case and bracelet – feather light yet extremely solid in construction. A brushed case and highly legible dial evoke an air of utility; befitting of a watch that is designed to be waterproof to 500m. Tied in with a superb finish with chamfered lugs and superior clasp operation and you have a true winner on your wrist ready to take on the elements.

The watch’s familiar black dial is now accompanied by a striking blue dial version inspired by 60’s Tudor Submariners, which feature a similar dial and hands design in a trademark “Snowflake” shape.

At first glance, many would assume that the Tudor Pelagos has just been given a new colour scheme, but a closer look reveals a new trick up its sleeve.

At 6 o’clock, you’ll find the words “Pelagos Chronometer Officially Certified”, something that the previous version of the Pelagos did not have. Beneath the caseback is a new manufacture movement: the MT5612, built entirely from the ground up by Tudor.

As the dial states, the movement is Chronometer Certified, and also boasts a 70-hour power reserve – allowing you to take the watch off on a Friday evening, and wear it again on a Monday morning without any winding. The new movement also features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring – for when reliability is everything.

Tudor continues to innovate with this year’s new releases, and the new Tudor Pelagos is no different. The new Tudor Pelagos represents the firm’s future with its new movement, whilst simultaneously respecting its history, and honouring Tudor watches of yore.

The new Tudor Pelagos is a result of fine engineering which forges the pinnacle of the ultimate diver’s watch.

For their efforts, Tudor recently won the Sports Watch award at the annual Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for the new Pelagos – an accolade which rewards the finest creations and the most important operators in the watchmaking sector.
