We get it. You’re a busy man with little time for such menial milestones as new year’s eve or day. Lest we forget, with another year rolling in quicker than Lance Armstrong on PED, your alternative is to celebrate it with your cat. You’re better than that. And kitty’s probably out partying with the hombres too.
So without further delay, here are the twelve coolest ways to see off 2015 in style across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Rock out on NYE with one of Sydney’s most exclusive event spaces and a scenic water view to boot. The Island is a floating bar which crams in 5-star service and regular crowds that look like they walked straight out of a glossy magazine. The views of the harbour are pretty damn stunning too but will be on another level come sunset and fireworks time. Worth every bit of hassle getting there (via boat), you can get your NYE tickets here.
The Glenmore Hotel
Another prime fireworks vantage point with the convenience of a bar and rooftop creature comforts is Sydney’s Glenmore Hotel. Built in 1921, the building is now heritage listed and makes all the right noises without the crushing crowds from the streets below. Get in quick as this is one of the closest places you can get to the midnight action. Find your tickets here.
North Head Lookout
Take NYE back to the school of old and head out of the CBD for a low-key affair with your closest buddies at the North Head lookout. Uninterrupted panoramic views of the entire harbour means more time for fireworks and less time fighting through crowds for a spot. It’s also a nice walk out to the head if that’s your kind of thing.
Bondi Icebergs NYD
If exclusivity is your game then new year’s day spent at one of Sydney’s most fashionable beach establishments is your golden ticket. We mean that quite literally too as punters will need to register their interest via email to sample the fruits of labour from its curators Angus McDonald and Maurice Terzini.
Once you’re in, you can expect nothing less than one of Sydney’s biggest day club events featuring leading international musical acts and DJs playing well into the Bondi sunset. Lest we forget the bevy of celebrity power also on hand to see through 2016 with you. Register your interest at NYD2015@idrb.com.
Catalina Rose Bay NYD
Check their homepage and you’ll notice that Catalina will be closed for a ‘private event’. That private event is the waterfront restaurant’s ultra exclusive New Year’s Day party. With no shortage of sun, award-winning food and top-shelf wine to satisfy Sydney’s most prominent figures, Catalina is the place to ring in 2016 with impeccable style. Did we mention the view of the bay? There’s that too. The event is by invite only so the way to attend is if you know someone in the right circles.
Watch the city’s fireworks from one of the greatest rooftop establishments in town. Located in South Yarra, the bar is a combo of elegance, sophistication and casual vibes all rolled into one. Besides the slick fit out, lounges and private booths, the rooftop also comes equipped with a retractable roof to tackle Melbourne’s notoriously temperamental weather. You can find out how to secure a spot on NYE here or NYD here.
Captain Baxter St Kilda Sea Baths NYD
Melbourne will showcase its best beach vibes for NYD with sweet tunes and cocktails flowing all day on January 1st. The sweet spot? St Kilda Sea Baths hosted by Captain Baxter. This year’s party will span across three levels including Encore St Kilda Beach, Rooftop and Captain Baxter. Get acquainted with Belvedere cocktails, Peroni and canapés. Bring your swimmers and secure your spot here. As for the endless sun and chilled atmosphere? That’s free.
A day at the Hamptons is the theme to 2016’s Carousel NYD event. Set against the idyllic backdrop of Albert Park Lake and Melbourne’s stunning city skyline, punters can also expect some serious tunes from international DJs and local talents like Generik. Had a rough night prior? You’ll be well taken care of – white luxurious day beds and marquees, manicured greenery and white picket fences all ensure you’ll feel right at home lounging the day away. Score your tickets here.
Flemington Races NYD
For those who can’t resist a good punt to kick off the year, you’re in luck. Flemington will open its gates to those sober enough to suit up and watch the horses do their thing. Naturally, there’ll be flowing champagne to complement much of what you would have had the night before. If you’re a beer guy, James Boags will have its own lawn bar set up. What hangover? Details here.
Up On Constance
One of the hottest rooftop spots in Queensland to view the city’s fireworks is turning up the class dial with a Hamptons style bash for NYE. Expect an endless night of tunes, special canapés and the best skyline views of Fortitude Valley once the clock hits midnight. More details here.
Soleil Pool Bar
What’s cooler than a rooftop bar on NYE? A rooftop bar with a pool. Soleil Pool Bar satisfies the most discerning reveller with one of the most extravagant locations to see the pyrotechnics go off. As the night flows into 2016, expect premium alcohol, gourmet canapés and a Havana theme with real sand and live acts performing into the early morning. Details can be found right here.
Rottnest Island NYE
Celebrate the new year with one of the country’s coolest bayside views and the teeming wildlife. Thomson Bay will dish up the atmosphere with fireworks over the water whilst the iconic Hotel Rottnest will run a selection of food stalls, drinks and tunes to ring in 2016. More info on the gig can be found here.
Now held on the 2nd of January, the Perth Cup isn’t exactly a NYE or NYD event anymore, but it is one of Ascot’s biggest days on their racing calendar. And it also gives you the perfect excuse to suit up and kick on with the festivities for a third consecutive day. Pull together a few of your buddies and enjoy it all under the sun as you take a punt on who’ll win the $500,000 Perth Cup. It can get a bit rough with the rowdy crowds but you’re guaranteed to have fun. More info here.
