Leave it to Etihad to come up with something this indulgent. The airline has officially launched “The Residence” on New York-Abu Dhabi flights – a cabin so swanky it includes a living room, a separate double bedroom and an en-suite shower. Oh, and did we mention the personal butler?
This is the royal treatment in the extreme. From a chauffeur-driven limousine service to Concierge Service and private check-in at the airport, every part of the experience is seamless and discreet. Guests of The Residence stay in a private three-room suite with perks like a 32″ LCD monitor, a private chef ready to create custom menus, and a butler trained at the Savoy Academy in London.
Of course, a ticket this over-the-top doesn’t come cheap. A flight from New York to Abu Dhabi will set you back $32,000 USD (about $44,000 AUD) – and that’s just one way. Still, despite the hefty price tag, travellers are lining up to book tickets for the newly opened route.
Etihad spent six years developing The Residence in hopes of attracting high net worth individuals who would otherwise use a private jet for long haul travel. The Residence is exclusive to Etihad’s fleet of A380s, which currently serve Sydney, London’s Heathrow and now New York’s JFK. Service to Mumbai and Melbourne is expected to be launched next year.
