Former Andy Warhol Estate Sold For Record US$50 Million

Full screen

What do John Lennon, the Rolling Stones and Elizabeth Taylor have in common? They all spent time at this incredible estate, once owned by Andy Warhol. The 5.7-acre oceanfront property in Montauk, New York recently sold for a record price of US$50 million.

Adam Lindemann, founder of the Upper East Side gallery Venus Over Manhattan, is the proud new owner. Lindemann collected Warhol’s artwork and knew the artist, making him eager to purchase the estate when it hit the market. Prior to Lindemann, J.Crew CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler bought the property for US$27.5 million in 2007.

The Warhol compound, called ‘Eothen,’ was built in the 1930s as a fishing camp. The plot now includes a main house measuring around 353-square-metres and five cottages.

If you’re upset you missed your chance to own a piece of pop art history, a 24-acre horse farm – originally listed together with the property – is still available for purchase.
