Formula One is undoubtedly the world’s most heavily governed sport. Its glamour and prestige speaks volumes of the bevy of major players from both the corporate and motoring world who often call the shots.
But what if a car manufacturer decided to burn the rule book and build a machine purely for the advancement of the sport? No rules. No influencers. Just speed. Enter the McLaren MP4-X. They call this the British manufacturer’s vision of the future.
McLaren Group Brand Director explained that “with the futuristic McLaren MP4-X concept racecar, we wanted to peer into the future and imagine the art of the possible.”
“We have combined a number of F1’s key ingredients – speed, excitement and performance, with the sport’s emerging narratives – such as enclosed cockpits to enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies.”
Excite the fans it most definitely will. But will it race? We’re not banking on it. It does however reflect the potential of technology that these cars can possess in 2016 and beyond.
