Since it was confirmed that a Star Wars prequel surrounding the life of Han Solo was in the works, there has been much speculation around who would play the smuggler, scoundrel and hero, until now.
After thousand of auditions, Disney and Lucasfilm have narrowed their search to just eight names. All relatively fresh faces in Hollywood, the list features Dave Franco, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Blake Jenner, Emory Cohen, and Logan Lerman.
Most of the actors lined up for the role have recently, or are set to have breakthrough roles: Miles Teller in ‘Whiplash’, Scott Eastwood in DC’s upcoming ‘Suicide Squad‘, Dave Franco in everything from ‘Bad Neighbours’ to ‘Superbad’ and the ‘Jump Street’ franchise, and Ansel Elgort in ‘Divergent’.
Yet there are some definite curveballs, such as Emory Cohen who appeared as the delinquent son of Bradley Cooper in ‘A Place Beyond The Pines’, Blake Jenner who has featured in TV series ‘Glee’ and ‘Supergirl’, and Jack Reynor who popped up in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’.
Following a younger Han Solo, the spin-off is set to reveal the character’s origin story, from his transition as a simple smuggler to intergalactic hero, years before our first introduction to the character in 1977’s ‘A New Hope’.
With the prequel slated for a May 25th release next year, it’s a war between stars. Who would you like to see playing a young Han Solo?
