Rumours have swirled for a while an Apple car is in the works. Most have been the kind of “sources said” thing that’s hard to verify, but a new move from Apple makes those rumours seem significantly more solid.
MacRumors reports that, as of January 8, Apple has registered three automotive domain names: apple.car, apple.cars, and apple.auto. The domains aren’t active yet, but it’s hard to imagine why the company would want a car-centric domain if they aren’t planning to build a car.
There’s other evidence that supports the theory. Apple has been hiring people away from Tesla and Fiat Chrysler, as well as battery supplier A123 Systems. Reports have said as many as 600 people are already working on the car, dubbed Project Titan, and that it could hit the streets by 2019.
