Penthouse To Shut Print Magazine Citing The Rise Of Internet Porn

The glory days of gentlemen’s print media has taken another hit with the iconic Penthouse magazine shutting down its print operations in the USA.

The reason for the closure points squarely at the abundance of internet porn available. Penthouse has been in print for 51 years but has been facing increased competition in recent times with online-based platforms offering similar content for free and to a broader audience.

Parent company FriendFinder bought the title back in 2004 but has struggled to gain traction from the start, with the magazine not being profitable since 2008 and the publisher going bankrupt in 2013. The strategy for Penthouse now is to move operations from New York to Los Angeles with its parent company, FriendFinder Networks, where the company hopes it can rivatalise the brand in the digital space.
