Guilt-free and environmentally-friendly island hopping? Sign us up. A new resort destination in the Maldives, Finolhu Villas by Club Med has just opened, and it’s 100% solar powered.
Designed by New York-based architects Yuji Yamazaki Architecture PLLC, in partnership with local firm Design 2000, and Italian engineering firm T&D Water Technologies, Finolhu Villas claims to be the world’s first entirely solar powered five-star resort, able to accommodate up to 100 guests per year.
The resort’s solar panels are visible to guests, but are integrated seamlessly into all aspects of its design as an architectural embellishment. Waterfront villas are accessed by a walkway covered in solar panels and are curved in a staggered position to provide privacy, at night they light up like lanterns. Talk about a natural beauty.
