Art Meets Food At The Galeries For Chinese New Year

Full screen

Gong xi fa cai. It’s Chinese New Year, which means good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity, it also means plenty of delicious food and fantastic art.

Sydney‘s The Galeries is taking a new spin on Chinese New Year celebrations and bringing together modern innovators in art and food. The Galeries’ Lotus Restaurant will be hosting an interactive dessert degustation from the 10-14 February, designed by Head Pasty Chef Tiffany Jones in collaboration with the iconic Black Star Pastry’s executive chef Sam Yeo. The multi-course dessert menu is inspired by Chinese blessings and by the looks of it will be a blessing to your stomachs.

Unique ingredients like white fungus, chrysanthemum, yarrow, peony tea, yuzu jelly and chocolate tofu will come together for the degustation, along with herbs from Jones’ own garden.

For the real culture vultures out there, The Galeries will also be hosting an art installation by paper engineer Paperform in the form of over 3,000 paper pinwheels, spinning in formations of red, blue, gold and silver as they hang from the centre’s glass ceiling atrium. It’s all about love, peace and happiness at The Galeries for Chinese New Year, and a spectacle not to be missed.
