Keep it simple, stupid. A principle adopted by successful, and fashionable men all over the world.
One of those men is Australian industrial designer, Marc Newson, who has once again collaborated with Dutch denim brand G-Star on an AW16 collection, that proves that a stylish wardrobe doesn’t have to be an impossible mission.
“I love the idea that you can get dressed in the dark…which I often do,” the Australian industrial designer admits to D’Marge. “The right options means the less time it takes to get dressed in the morning, so pieces were made with the idea that they made up a uniform.”
Newson’s conceptual approach to the collection was nothing more than a continuation and refinement from one season to the next. “There is no highfalutin concept beyond making clothes that I would like to wear and see others wearing.”
Euro and Japanese streetwear take on American sportswear for G-Star by Marc Newson AW16, with classic wardrobe must-haves like the Newson Coach Jacket, 7/8 length chinos, 5-pocket jeans and 3/4 sleeve tees and sweatshirts in jersey and premium sweat-shirting, featuring Newson’s iconic graphic prints and signature architectural constructions.
It’s not just about the basics though. Newson explains that the uniform-inspired nature of his Autumn Winter collection with G-Star makes it easy to dress up, or down, depending on the occasion. “The beauty of the uniform is that it only takes a couple of elements to completely change the look – with the same pant and jacket, trade in a tee for a button-up to show off the versatility.”
As for his favourite piece from the collection, Newson is all about multi-purpose functionality. “Besides the polyester twin-set, my favourite is the reversible jacket because it’s kind of versatile. Spill your drink on one side – you can always reverse it.”
So, it all begs the question, what items should be in every man’s wardrobe for simple and fuss-free styling? “Definitely a well-fitting pair of chinos and a fitted and understated jacket.”
Easy does it for the season ahead.
