Teen Scales Great Pyramid To Take Dizzying Sneaker Selfie

Full screen

The sneaker selfie has become something of an Instagram cliché, but we’ll give Andrej Ciesielski a pass. The 18-year-old climbed Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza – in broad daylight – to snap an epic (and illegal) shot of his ASICS.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one that remains mostly intact. Ciesielski described the death-defying climb on his website: “It took me around 8 minutes to reach the top. Climbing down took me 20 minutes. Safety first!”

Along with images, the teenage daredevil documented the stunt in a GoPro video. The vertigo-inducing footage shows both the ascent and descent from the pyramid, plus the breathtaking 360-degree views copped from the top.

Police waited for Ciesielski when he returned to terra firma, but after an hour of questioning, let him go. Though he risked a three-year jail sentence, Ciesielski told Business Insider that the spectacular video and photos made it all worth it.
