It may not be official but it’s still damn cool to see a modern rendition of a classic. No car can attest to this more than the iconic Volkswagen T1.
What makes this a truly special car isn’t so much its hippie status (though that helps) but it’s the fact that they’re so popular that they get more valuable with age. The T1 is essentially the predecessor to the popular people mover known as the Kombi van which began production way back between 1950 and 1967.
In 2016 that legendary shape gets a futuristic tweaking compliments of designer David Obendorfer. Based on the current Transporter T6 platform, the digital rendering takes notable cues from the first edition including the iconic front fascia.
This design by the Obendorfer comes shortly after VW’s electric microbus unveil at CES and harks back at a more old school design. Good timing? Perhaps. We are feeling this more than VW’s official version.
For now you get renderings and a cool video of the design.
