Keeping it in the family in the world of luxury watchmaking is Alpina, the famous red triangle which was founded in 1883. Today the Swiss watchmaker has come to Baselworld 2016 to show off some of its finest wares. The cornerstone of Alpina design remains to be their innovative calibres and a continuation of concept of the esteemed Swiss sports watch.

Two definitive Alpina models from the show caught our attention and deserve a mention. Let’s take a closer look at each piece.

Seastrong Diver 300

The Seastrong Diver 300 (REF. AL-525LBG4V6) is presented as the new automatic diving range for Alpina at Baselworld. The masculine looking watch is an exercise in seamless form and function which is sure to please any discerning sports watch fan. The heart of the design lies in its cushion shaped 44mm stainless steel case that can take on depths of up to 300m. Pure functionality. Outside of the water the Seastrong Diver 300 provides as a beautiful timepiece which take inspiration from Alpina’s diving watches of the past century.

The movement itself is an AL-525 automatic calibre which drives the hours, minutes, seconds and a date window at 3 o’clock. Moving onto the dial, one will be greeted with a black hue with white colour luminous indexes and hours and minute hands whilst power reserve for the Seastrong 300 is rated at 38 hours.

To coincide with its diving credentials the watch comes equipped with a rubber nubuck strap as well as a water-resistant genuine leather strap.

Seastrong Diver Heritage

The jewel of the Alpina Baselworld collection was no doubt the Diver Heritage which continues the essence of the Super Compressor divers made during the 1960s. In particular, the Alpina 10 which is today a collector’s item has been faithfully reproduced in the modern Seastrong Diver Heritage. In essence it’s all about taking the vintage classic and reinterpreting it for today’s wearers.

The sleek and understated watch boasts a 42mm stainless steel case which can withstand a depth of 300 metres. Within the case resides the robust automatic AL-525 calibre with 26 jewels and a 38 hour power reserve. On the dial there will be an option of two colours: silver with a black bezel or silver with a dark navy bezel. The hands are luminous whilst the minute hand sports a retro-styled arrowhead tip. A date window at 4 o’clock complements this watch beautifully in a clean and elegant package.

To round out the vintage inspired timepiece, the Heritage comes with a waterproof leather strap.
