Swiss watchmaker Edox took to Baselworld 2016 with some of the world’s most attractive performance pieces to ever come out of Les Genvez. The name does lend itself to the models of an older era but Edox’s winning pieces lie in their bold sporting instruments which usually carry an association with diving, sailing, motor racing or speedboat racing. At Baselworld 2016 Edox presented three standout models which showcased the company’s innovative approach to masculine and functional watchmaking.

Here’s a breakdown on each piece.

Grand Ocean Automatic Chronograph

Competitive sailing lies at the very heart of the Grand Ocean Automatic Chronograph. As the official watch to the Extreme Sailing Series and the cornerstone of extreme performance and refinement, the Grand Ocean Automatic Chronograph boasts some serious nautical features in a beautifully presented timepiece. The watch receives a brand new ceramic bezel coated in polished black whilst the imposing 45mm stainless steel PVD case holds an ETA 7750 movement which drives the chronograph counters at 6 o’clock, 9 o’clock, a 4min AP Down countdown at 12 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock.

The watch’s dial is set in black whilst the black chrome hands and indexes are coated with Super Luminova for legibility when taking on the most daunting seas. A tachymeter scale is also embedded into the dial which adds a further visual depth to the watch. A transparent case back ensures that the wearer will be able to see the world map tracing. The Grand Ocean Automatic Chronograph comes with a black rubber strap and has a water resistant rating of 300 metres.

Chronoffshore-1

Another beautifully appointed piece by Edox which exudes masculinity and striking design is the Chronoffshore-1. This pure performance timepiece has been bred to take on the extremities of powerboat racing. Under these strict requirements, a sports watch that is rugged, reliable, affordable and packed full of functions was born.

The watch’s 45mm stainless steel case holds the ultra reliable Edox 011 mechanical chronograph movement which drives the hours, minutes and seconds chronograph sub-dials, day-date display and a red inner tachymeter scale. With that many features, the Chronoffshore-1 still manages to look slick, clean and uncluttered. A black ceramic bezel adds further visual depth to this watch as it frames the blue chequerboard patterned dial.

Water resistance for the Chronoffshore-1 is naturally exceptional at 500 metres. The watch comes with a black rubber strap which adds to the nautical feel of the Chronoffshore-1.

Sharkman I Limited Edition

The Sharkman pays homage to the deep sea divers who take on the shark infested waters all over the world. As the official watch of free diver Christian Redl, the Sharkman is a 388 piece limited edition model which comes in a 45mm stainless steel case with a 500 metre water resistance rating.

Inside the case resides a Ronda 5030.D movement which drives a counter at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock. A date window is also present at 4 o’clock as is a vibrant tachymeter scale set in fluorescent green. The watch comes with either a rubber strap or nylon black strap. For exclusivity, the Sharkman receives a special case back engraving with the message ‘Face Your Fear’, a watch box and a certificate.
