We know director Todd Phillips can nail the tale of guys getting wasted before a wedding (that would be The Hangover I-III), but can he take on a more serious subject? His latest cinematic outing is War Dogs, the story of two 20-somethings who fib their way into becoming government contractors.
The film stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller as a pair of freshly-minted gun runners. The arms dealing trade is initially good to the boys, who rake in tons of cash in the illicit biz. Of course, it doesn’t last. The duo find themselves deeply and comedically in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military.
The craziest part of the whole thing is that, unlike The Hangover series, War Dogs tells a real story. The film is based on the lives of David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who were profiled by Rolling Stone in 2011.
Bradley Cooper and Ana de Armas also star in the flick, which is slated to land in cinemas in August. Watch the first trailer above.
