Van Gogh Documentary To Be The World’s First Fully Painted Film

Vincent van Gogh is having a moment. First, Airbnb guests were given the opportunity to sleep in one of the Dutch post-Impressionist’s most famous paintings. Now, the artist is about to become the subject of the first-ever fully painted feature film.

Every frame of Loving Vincent is an oil painting on canvas, created with the same technique Vincent himself used. The biopic is told entirely through the images and characters van Gogh first brought to life – from the moody absinthe drinks to the extraordinary starry nights. Over 120 of the artist’s iconic paintings are folded into the narrative, joined by a plot woven from 800 of his letters.

Loving Vincent is currently recruiting painters to train in van Gogh’s style and contribute to the ground-breaking film. Those selected will train and work at the film’s studio in Poland August 2016. Visit the website for details and watch the trailer above.
