Skytrax, the UK-based consultancy firm which reviews and ranks airports have just released their list of the world’s best. You can think of this as the Michelin restaurant guide for airports, should those contenders be voted by the people who use them.
Topping the list yet again is Singapore’s Changi Airport which has held the coveted crown for four years in a row. Don’t call it luck either as the innovative space has received the top gong a staggering seven times in the past. The award was presented to Changi Airport at a ceremony held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Cologne, Germany.
Commending Changi’s ongoing efforts for impeccable design and service, CEO of Skytrax Edward Plaisted attributed the success to the airport’s “continuing ability to be able to innovate in product and service options for its customers, and to make the experience as relaxing and comfortable as possible.”
The clean sweep didn’t end there though with Changi’s much lauded amenities such as music bar lounges, pools and in-transit hotels also scoring them an award for best Leisure Amenities in an airport.
CEO of Changi Airport Group, Lee Seow Hiang, was modest in his acceptance of the accolades. “It is the extraordinary effort and commitment of the entire airport community that drives Changi’s success. We thank our passengers and partners alike for their continued support and confidence in us.”
Only three European airports made it into this year’s top ten list with Munich at number three, Zurich at seven and London’s Heathrow Airport nabbing the eighth spot.
The Skytrax results are based on customers participating in the world’s largest annual airport customer service survey. In numbers, that equates to 13.25 million guest nominations over 106 nationalities and 550 airports.
The Skytrax top ten airports are:
1. Singapore Changi Airport
2. Incheon International Airport
3. Munich Airport
4. Tokyo International Airport (Haneda)
5. Hong Kong International Airport
6. Chūbu Centrair Nagoya
7. Zurich Airport
8. London Heathrow Airport
9. Kansai International Airport
10. Hamad International Airport
