There are plenty of sure-fire ways to ruin any chances of a successful Tinderaction. Some choice pick-up lines include “Are you my appendix? Because I don’t understand how you work, but this feeling in my stomach makes me want to take you out“, or “Do you sell carpeting? Because I’m looking for a deep shag.”
If you’re keen to avoid the cheesy Tinder pick-up, just send a GIF. According to the dating app, sending a GIF instead of a text or an emoji will increase the likelihood of receiving a response by 30%.
Apparently, conversations that include GIFs also last twice as long as conversations without GIFs on Tinder. “GIFs allow people to better say what they want to and express emotion, which is something that’s really difficult to do in text alone,” said Tinder co-founder and senior vice president of product Jonathan Badeen in an interview with Buzzfeed. “It opens up people to start more conversations and break the ice.”
Since Tinder introduced the nifty GIF button in January, more than 20 million have been sent globally on the app. GIFs featuring Jimmy Fallon, Beyonce, Ryan Gosling and Joey’s classic “How You Doin?” get the quickest response rate. Clearly, the secret to modern day love lies in the power of an animated photo.
