The craftsmen behind Swiss Army and Victorinox have turned their attention towards the bright lights of Baselworld 2016. The latest collection is all about inspiring man to take on their greatest adventure alongside some of the world’s most indestructible timepieces.
We swung by Victorinox to check out four of their standout timepieces from the show this year.
Victorinox Swiss Army Airboss Mach 9 Limited Edition
The essence of aviation meets the unbreakable Swiss build quality of Victorinox in the Airboss Mach 9 LE utilitarian timepiece. The unique character of the watch is further enhanced by a chronograph feature which adds extra functionality to the watch.
A 42mm sandblasted titanium case houses a Valjoux 7750 automatic mechanical movement which drives the hours, minutes, seconds, date and chronograph with 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. The watch is water resistant up to 100 metres and has a screwed on stainless steel case back and scratch resistant sapphire crystal front.
On the dial you’ll find a grey finish with hour and minute hands coated in luminescent material. The watch is finished off with a khaki brushed leather strap with a cuff. Only 250 numbered pieces of the Airboss LE will be released by Victorinox.
INOX Professional Diver
Swiss Army toughness heads to the ocean’s depths with the attractive INOX Professional Diver. The modern day tool watch boasts a solid 45mm stainless steel case complete with thick lugs and a beveled stainless steel unidirectional bezel with markers too offset the hefty steel mass.
Going inside the watch will reveal a Swiss Ronda 715 quartz movement which is much tougher and and more precise than a mechanical movement. A date window sits on the dial at the 4 o’clock mark whilst the hour and minute hands are coated in luminova for visibility under the sea. The new model also brings some much welcomed improvements including a 200 metre Professional Diver rating and an antimagnetic rating stamped on the dial.
Buyers will have the option to choose from four colours including black, yellow, indigo blue and red.
The classic Victorinox Paracord brings simplicity and robustness into one attractive outdoor piece. Inside the 43mm stainless steel case is the Swiss made Ronda 715 quartz movement which displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date at 4 o’clock. Luminescent hands and indexes ensure that time is kept under low light conditions. The Paracord is capable of submerging to 200 metres and comes with the iconic Swiss Army red weaved paracord strap.
If there’s one aspect that Victorinox haven’t touched on with their range of near-indestructible watches, it’s weight. In 2016 the INOX line receives the titanium treatment and with that a fresh new matte texture.
The same 43mm case housing the Ronda 715 quartz remains only now within a more attractive appeal of a dark titanium finish. This combination of strength and good looks add an extra dimension of aggressiveness the INOX. Water resistance remains at 200 metres for the watch whils the hands and indexes receive luminescent coating.
The INOX Titanium will come in an orange, blue or a grey rubber strap which correlates to the colour of the seconds hand. The grey edition’s seconds hand receives Victorinox’s traditional red hue.
