Evisceration, desiccation, embalming and…sneakers? Scientists recently unearthed the 1,500-year-old partial remains of a Mongolian woman in a pair of Adidas sneakers (yes, that’s right), breaking the internet and fuelling talk of time travel.
According to The Sun, the hands and feet of the women were found high up in the Altai Mountains along with a pair of Adidas sneakers, trademark stripes and all. The corpse was also buried with a saddle, bridle, clay base, wooden bowl, trough, iron, kettle and an entire horse – just for good measure.
“This is a very rare phenomenon. These finds show us the beliefs and rituals of the Turkiks,” researcher at Khovd Museum, B. Sukhbaatar told the Siberian Times. “We can date the burial by the things we have found there, also the type of hat…It gives us a preliminary date of around the 6th century AD.”
But that still doesn’t explain the sneakers, people. Either there’s some spooky stuff going on, or ancient Mongolians were seriously ahead of the times.
