If a Formula E race car was speeding directly for you, just a few metres away from turning you into a streak of human goo, many of us wouldn’t move. We’d either be paralysed by fear, or we’d simply know the futility of trying to outrun something whose sole purpose is to be as fast as possible.
If you’re Damien Walters, however, you have more unusual ideas about how to handle that lethal situation. The Hollywood stuntman recently put every drop of his adrenaline to the test by performing a blind backflip over a Formula E race car in Mexico City.
In the video above, we see Walters prepare for the feat. He practices backflip after backflip as the four-wheeled death-trap hurtles past him. A video team records each attempt from the side to see if his flips would clear the car in the real thing. Meanwhile, his voiceover explains the obvious: “You need to be really crazy to do this kind of stunt. This is dangerous. I don’t think it’s a normal thing to do, to jump over a car.”
Normal or not, Walters did it and it’s spectacular to watch. Have a towel handy. You’ll need to wipe the sweat off your palms after watching.
