The relationship between rappers and booze continues to go from strength from strength with Drake entering the luxe whisky segment with his own new bottle called Virginia Black.
Joining the likes of Diddy’s Cîroc, Pharrell’s Qream, Jay-Z’s Armand de Brignac and of course, Lil Jon’s supposed Crunk Juice, Drake will offer up a drink that will be more suited to VIP booths of the Vegas club scene.
Heading over to the sleek Virginia Black website, guests are told that the new drink will offer things such as: “Glamour. Swagger. Soul. Decadence. Redefined. This is Virginia Black.”
Of course Drake, who ironically goes by the name Champagne Papi, didn’t blend the stuff himself. The Whisky was created in collaboration with successful booze entrepreneur Brent Hocking, a man who is credited on the Virginia Black website for his “unconventional luxury with an edge approach” to alcohol.
What this has meant for his customers in the past is premium bottles of DeLeón Tequila which retails for $900 a pop. The brand itself has since been sold to Diageo, the world’s largest liquor producer. This calibre of company behind Drake’s new whisky should give detractors an indication of the serious potential behind Virginia Black.
Hocking added that the whisky won’t be prohibitively expensive in order to appeal to new whisky customers. Which is a good thing if you want to save some pennies to dress like Drake.
Drake’s Virginia Black is due to launch on May 1 in New York, across California and Nevada whilst global markets will get to sample the drink shortly after. Those
hypebeasts people interested can stay up to date on Virginia Black’s Facebook.
