If you’re looking for a new, stylish way to get fit and zen out in Sydney, then look no further than Humming Puppy, a yoga studio that lets you leave the outside world behind and immerse yourself in good vibes.
“Humming Puppy was born from a desire to follow my passion for teaching yoga and inspire those who thought that yoga maybe wasn’t for them, and was only for hippies. Chris and I also wanted to present yoga in a way that was unlike anything in the industry, and provide our students with an experience that thought about their every need,” says Co-founder, Jackie Alexander.
Joining Humming Puppy Melbourne, the Sydney studio is to open in the hipster hub of Redfern and will offer more of the same personalised and fuss-free classes the yogis of Victoria have grown to know and love.
But what makes Humming Puppy Sydney a must-try for fitness in 2016? As well as giving students the ability to tailor their classes and even select a mat position online, Humming Puppy employs full-time teachers rather than sub-contractors, creating a ‘sharing is caring’ family atmosphere at the studio.
“One of our mottos is ‘travel light and leave feeling even lighter’, so we provide our students with everything they need to practice, from mats, to blocks, straps and bolsters and then everything they need to get the sweat off in our fully equipped bathroom facilities…” Yes, that’s right. Humming Puppy provides shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels and even shower caps, hair dryer and straighteners if you’re keen to spruce up and get in touch with your feminine side post-practice.
“The most unique element of Humming Puppy is ‘the hum’…” says Jackie, referring to the 4 class styles offered at Humming Puppy that welcome beginners through to the most experienced yogi. For those who are keen on a ‘super chilled restorative class’ there’s Mellow Hum, or if you’re a seasoned contender and want to Deepen Your Hum, there are workshop-style classes that encourage advanced postures and plenty of playful interaction between teachers and students.
But before you go thinking Humming Puppy is a ladies only studio, think again. 2016 is the year of ‘Broga‘, after all. “We have seen a massive growth in men at our studio in Melbourne and in some classes men are outnumbering the women. We have found that our male students need and want the practice to compliment their often hardcore 545 or Crossfit training and that it helps to improve their performance in these areas.”
Add to that a host of physical and mental benefits, like feeling calmer and being more mindful and you’ve got yourself a mid-year resolution you might actually follow through with. Humming Puppy Sydney officially opens on Monday 11th of April and for 2 weeks will be offering FREE yoga classes so you can try before you buy. A monthly unlimited pass will set you back a cool $115, so you can get in touch with your Broga-loving side in style without giving up on your weekly Crossfit fix.
