A futuristic battle between father and son. A high-flying dance move. A prehistoric roar. These are just a few of the most iconic film shots in history, 100 of which appear in a new video from Jacob T. Swinney.
Called “100 Years/100 Shots,” the clip is both a survey of film history and a celebration of what makes the medium great. Swinney selected one perfect shot from each year since 1915, then stitched them together with a fittingly moving soundtrack for the 6-minute video.
“While many of these shots are the most recognizable in film history,” he writes, “others are equally iconic in their own right. For example, some shots pioneered a style or defined a genre, while others tested the boundaries of censorship and filmgoer expectations…. I want this video to be a reminder as to why we all love cinema so much.”
At the very least, it’s a powerful reminder of what’s missing from your Netflix queue.
