If opening up your chakras in downward dog isn’t really your cup of tea, then ‘Rage Yoga‘ might be the health and wellbeing alternative you’ve been searching for.
Created by Canadian Lindsay-Marie Istace after “the really painful breakup of a long term relationship”, Rage Yoga is for men and women who want to improve their posture and flexibility without the awkwardness of a claustrophobic yoga studio.
The ‘Rage Yoga’ website asks, “Want to better your strength, flexibility and become zen as f*ck? Enjoy the occasional f-bomb or innuendo?…You’ve come to the right place.”
Participants are encouraged to swear and drink mid-pose at Istace’s studio/pub and to enhance the whole experience with metal music from the likes of Metallica and Black Sabbath played throughout each class. We’re not sure if that would inspire peaceful centering or just a nasty headache, but hey, live and let live.
“When I started going to yoga classes, I felt like I didn’t really fit in at a lot of those different studios,” Istace told Vice. “[They have a] very deadpan, serious, overly serene approach to things. And that’s just not how I roll.”
‘Rage Yoga’ is currently only offered in Calgary, Canada but Istace hopes to soon make it available online having already benefited from a successful Kickstarter that raised over $7,500 CAD for the creation and distribution of online classes.
