You’ll have to wait until 2017 for Star Wars: Episode VIII, but in the meantime fans jonesing for a fix can satisfy their cravings with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film is the first of several “anthology” films Disney plans to release in the years between Episodes VII to IX.
Rogue One takes place just before A New Hope, as a Rebel mission attempts to steal the plans for the construction of the Death Star. Plot details are predictably scarce, but it appears this entry in the Star Wars cannon may have a slightly different tone from its predecessors – a little more dark, a little less showy space opera.
Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards (known for 2014′s Godzilla reboot) and features a stacked cast of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker. Watch the first trailer above and look for the film in cinemas in December.
