The notion of clothes shopping can often strike fear into the hearts of a many men. Managing to get yourself into a store or online is just the first hurdle. After that there’s a little question that most tend to forget: What the hell am I looking for and how much is it going to cost?
Put that stolen credit card away. Today we’re showing you guys how to save time and your pretty pennies as we take through three defining looks of the stars sans the Hollywood big shot price tags.
Breaking It Down
Three different guys, three different key looks. Getting the look for less is all about stealing a celebrity’s style without stealing the exorbitant price tag. To kick things off, we have an immaculately dressed down Tom Ford, a younger California-inspired street style in Cody Simpson and the easy weekender from creative guy, Jarryd James. Let’s take a closer look at each outfit.
Tom Ford is renowned for his impeccable dress sense which has stood the test of time and redefined masculine fashion in the past decade. Whilst his signature monochromatic suits have graced the red carpets as well as celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Daniel Craig, they are in no way affordable to a lot of the younger guys out there (starting price of AU$6,000).
We feel your pain. We’ve taken the liberty to find you the pieces which can pull off a similar Tom Ford look without breaking the budget. It’s important to bear in mind that what you’re compromising here isn’t so much the aesthetics but more so the finer details and exotic materials. If done right, the cheaper alternative should resemble the iconic Tom Ford look quite fittingly without breaking the bank.
Hit up the Tom Ford style with a black wool suit compliments of COS. The wool is textured and is used to make a two-buttoned blazer in a classic style with a narrow notched lapel. Shoes meanwhile are a black number from Australian brand Aquila and you can score a white shirt from ZARA. Given that these are off the rack items, ensure that you go for the right size to obtain the slimmer cut of Tom Ford suits. If all else fails, bring it to a tailor to get the suit properly fitted. It’ll be the best $100 you’ll ever spend.
Cody Simpson is the Aussie ex-pat who has made it big in the United States. Noted for his musical appeal and boyish charm, Simpson has also managed to court a different market with his seamless integration of laid back Aussie style alongside Californian streetwear. It’s fun, relaxed and scores a ten in the cool surf style bible.
Keeping the look simple to achieve is an ASOS denim shirt layered over a longline white tee, paired with skinny black jeans and black leather boots from Aquila. The trucker cap adds a dash of youth to the look but rest assured wearing it backwards is totally optional. We’d even recommend going without it. Hook a pair of your favourite sunnies on the shirt and you’re good to go.
A clear winner when it comes to a beach derived street look.
Our final look is taken care of by a rising Australian artist in Jarryd James. The 31-year-old ARIA award recipient also manages to take the gold stuff for his clean weekend digs which is a white-out ensemble done right for the creative guy.
A white granddad collared shirt in cool linen layered over a casual white tee pairs perfectly whilst the stone-washed denim is typically muso-inspired. You can opt for a torn up washed denim in skinny fit or go for the newer trend which have the hems cropped denim to show off the fancy footwear.
To round things out, James rocks a pair of clean white sneakers. A pair of Adidas Stan Smiths will get the job done right but any white pair of leather sneakers should also do fine. Summer wardrobe sorted.
