Trainspotting was the iconic black comedy that put young actors Ewan McGregor, Johnny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Kelly Macdonald and others on the map. Following a bunch of young heroin addicts through the depression years of 1980s Edinburgh, the film showcased some stellar storytelling and acting as well as the stark poverty of the culturally-rich town.
Named tenth amongst the top 100 British films by the British Film Institute, Trainspotting 2 will reunite an old cast for the sequel to the 1996 hit twenty years on.
Headed by Danny Boyle himself who is returning to direct this sequel, the new teaser is simply a rehash of the first movie and features the unmistakable backing track of Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life”.
The closing train montage shows off a group standing together before a credit list reveals the entire original cast marking their return. The new story will revolve around Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel called Porno which follows Renton’s character as he reunites with the gang to start his own pornography venture after his trip to Amsterdam.
The film is slated for a U.S release in January 2017.
