It’s a massive edition of the best motoring news this week with the wrap of the good stuff alongside the spectacular footage from this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. If you’re into rolling exotics going very fast and making a lot of noise then this edition is for you.
#1 Q By Aston Martin Vantage GT12 Roadster
Breaking cover at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is Aston Martin’s most extreme roadster to ever be built, a one-off Vantage GT12 Roadster. The project is a customer car that’s been modified by Aston Martin’s tuning arm known as Q – yes, like in 007. The menacing looking machine is powered by an uprated 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 which will no doubt leave occupants at the mercy of 600 ponies.
#2 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Is A Real Transformer
Ever wanted to bring your favourite childhood toy to life? Well Porsche have answered that question for you with their 2017 Panamera Turbo complete with a crazy transforming rear wing which wouldn’t look out of place in a Michael Bay film. To the stoic German engineers, this is just another day’s work: “On the Panamera Turbo, the wing also splits as it extends, providing additional surface area”. Cool story. Watch the video below to see this crazy contraption blow your mind.
#3 Mark Higgins & Subaru Record Winning Isle Of Man Run
Last year we interviewed rally and stunt car driver Mark Higgins. Before he broke the Isle of Man record on four wheels in a purpose built Subaru WRX STI, he said this about racing: “It was in my blood. You need to have a natural ability in the car”. That natural ability was on full display a few weeks ago when he got behind the wheel at the Isle of Man and today we finally get to see Higgins narrating us through the entire in-car footage of the freakishly fast lap. Sit back and marvel at this maestro working his magic at over 200km/h.
#4 Watch Jay Leno Crashes In A 2,500hp Car
Sometimes checking off one’s bucket list isn’t the best idea. Especially if that idea involves riding shotgun with an 80-year-old driver in a 2,500hp car on two wheels. Such was the case for talk show host and car collector Jay Leno who was the subject of a stunt that didn’t go to plan. He’s rather lucky he didn’t lose an arm too. Skip to 2:50 where the action begins.
#5 2017 Ford GT ’66 Heritage Edition
Missed out on locking down your very own Ford GT? Don’t fret. Ford have just unveiled a special edition due to go on sale in 2017 in the form of a throwback livery version. The specific livery dates back to the GT40 Mark II driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon who took first place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. It’s an aesthetic affair with Shadow Black paint in an option of either gloss or matte finish with silver racing stripes and frozen white N.o. 2 graphics. The forged 20-inch wheels also get a makeover in the form of a gold satin finish.
