Welcome to the weekly wrap of the world’s greatest motoring news. In this edition we’ve got the goods coming in from Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-AMG and a little car that could. And by could we mean travelling at 1,600km/h for the land speed record. Buckle up.
#1 LaFerrari Open-Top Unveiled At Paris
Big news from the prancing horse this week with the very sold out and very expensive LaFerrari hypercar receiving new production in convertible format. Want one? Too bad they’re all spoken for as it’s a limited edition special for private clients. The underpinnings remain unchanged from the original LaFerrari with a big V12 pumping out 963hp. The only difference is a removable carbon-fibre hard top and a removable soft top. Slight refinements have been made to the body and aero in order to retain the same chassis rigidity as the hardtop. In other words it’ll still be fun to drive.
#2 Mercedes AMG GT R Makes Noise At Goodwood
We had a wrap of the best from Goodwood last week but one little green machine escaped our eyes – the beats of the Green Hell known as the Mercedes AMG GT R. We need say no more. Watch below.
#3 Watch A Rolls-Royce Take On The Nurburgring
The Nurburgring is the testing bed for some of the world’s fastest exotics. That’s why in theory a Rolls-Royce Wraith which weighs 2.5 tonnes shouldn’t have a place on the track. Keyword: Shouldn’t. Watch the big V12 lug itself around the corners in all its tyre-screaming glory. Not bad Roycey, not bad at all.
#4 Bloodhound SSC Announces New Land Speed Record Attempt
What does 1,600km/h sound like? You’ll have to wait. The team behind Bloodhound SSC have marked in the October 2017 date for the record books to be re-written. The Bloodhound SSC is powered by a Rolls-Royce jet engine alongside hybrid rockets and a supercharged V8 engine from a Jaguar. Right. Engine hog much.
