While fashion can be bought. Style can’t. The latter is proof that individuality in fashion is key: the ability to express yourself without ignoring the perimeters that menswear operates within. And Westfield gets it. The one-stop shopping hub is offering this season’s must-have fashion items for men, wanting every gent to play around with staple – and stand out items – for a look that suits them.

Essentially, Westfield is giving guys permission to ‘Own Your Story’: inspiring shoppers to embrace their individuality and express themselves. But, sometimes some direction is in order.

Whether you’re a vino drinking bon vivant or the trend-a-minute hypebeast, we’ve assembled four outfits for men, that’ll take you from day-to-night during the week and on the weekend. Identify with a look you love and then tweak accordingly. Fashion was never meant to be robotic, but it can be easy. Own it. You’re the author now.

#1 The Suit

We get it. Sometimes corporate dress codes can stifle individuality. But, the suit is one of menswear’s longest standing style items. And rightly so. The tailored ensemble – a jacket and trouser pairing – is the easiest way to look sharp and instantly smart. With the foundation laid, now you can adjust and add in accessories to make it more you.

Contemporary suit wearers should reconsider colour and inject tasteful prints. The classic prince of wales grey suit is having a renaissance. Cut square on the shoulder, the check jacket should sit neat and the trousers snug on the waist with a flat front design and minimal trouser break. Inject a waistcoat for a nostalgic note, but also a contemporary edge – not many gents opt for three-piece nowadays, but it’s a great way to add warmth and depth to flat suit look. For a tonal finish, add in a silk knit grey tie, a business-crisp white shirt and a perforated black leather Derby shoe.

Checks, perforation and knitted fabrics – texture allows for subtle personality to push through, without rebelling against office codes.

#2 The Bon Vivant

For the gent who’s devoted to a sociable and luxurious lifestyle, the suit remains a key element beyond the office grind. But, with a structural difference. Look to a foolproof navy two piece, with relaxed mechanics – soft shoulder line and lightweight wool –  so the jacket drapes and moves with your body, perfect for writing your own sartorial story.

The other downplay? A thin gauge knit – instead of a predictable collared shirt and tie. Stick with crew neck and opt for a graphic print – a breton stripe in navy and white for the traditionalist – or something jauntier like jewel-tone florals on dark base or geometric shapes in muted colour-block panels.

Making the sophisticated look even more contemporary: fresh white kicks – to match your pocket square (don’t dismiss all suit accessories). Stick with low tops in a streamline shape, the shape more like dress shoes – and avoid active mesh and neon accents which only kill the mood. Neat sneakers are versatile and comfortable for those casual-to-chic Saturday itineraries – taking you from aperitif to dinner to digestif without the need to change. Who has time for that?

#3 The Hypebeast

If you’re the kinda guy who thrives on the what’s new, the trend-wagon and what you should and could be wearing, here’s a day-to-night look that ticks all your style boxes. Slim cut jeans in a dark vintage wash are your foundation, building on the indigo with a with pique navy polo, open at the neck for day and then buttoned up for night.

Keeping you on-trend, this season’s ‘it’ jacket is the bomber, in a nylon, black shell fabric for protection against the elements and a sense of active cool. Finally, pin the look down with brown boots. Lace-up derby leathers have unsaddled the suede Chelsea of late as the fashionisto boot of choice, seeking casual sophistication on the city streets. Fashion followers, take note.

#4 The Biker

For the gent who wants to bust out some style attitude on the weekend, ride on in with the biker look. A box-cut black perfecto in 100% grained leather (never pleather, please) is the biker signature piece. Then keep it simple. A marl-charcoal t-shirt in a relaxed fit over slim-cut (not skinny) black denim jeans and brown suede boots, breaking up all that monochrome.

During the day, a classic blue chambray shirt ties Nirvana-esque around the waist, accentuating that nineties grunge vibe. Then, at night, slip the button-up on under the jacket and over t-shirt for a tri-piece layered look that keeps you warm and gives your biker look a second wind. Again, no need to cruise on home before your next adventure, just hit the accelerator and keep going.
